It was announced today that the Royal Court Theatre has received four nominations in the shortlist for the 2016 Olivier Awards.

Martin McDonagh’s latest play Hangmen is nominated for Best New Play, with Matthew Dunster nominated for Best Director and Anna Fleischle nominated for Best Set Design. Hangmen opened in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at the Royal Court in September 2015 and transferred to the West End to the Wyndham’s theatre in December. The transfer of Hangmen is produced by Robert Fox, Matthew Byam Shaw for Playful Productions and Royal Court Theatre Productions.

Gary Owen’s new play Violence and Son is nominated for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre. Violence and Son opened in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court in June 2015.

Commenting on the nominations Lucy Davies, Executive Producer at the Royal Court said;

“Hangmen has been a major event for us at the Royal Court this past year. It is thrilling that Martin, Matthew and Anna’s brilliance have been recognised. We are also very grateful that SOLT continues to celebrate the impact and influence of the plays we produce in the Theatre Upstairs. Gary Owen’s Violence and Son is a masterful example of that work.”

The winners will be announced in a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on Sunday 3 April 2016.
