Plan Your Visit
Whether joining us for a play, popping in for a drink, or visiting for the first time, here’s everything you need to know for your visit to the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square.
Attending a Performance FAQs
When should I arrive to watch a play?
We recommend arriving in good time and taking your seat before the performance begins. Doors usually open around 30 minutes before the start.
Where is my ticket?
Your e-ticket will have been emailed from boxoffice@boxoffice.royalcourttheatre.com. Try searching “e-ticket” in your inbox.
You can:
- Show your ticket on your phone
- Or print it out in advance
Collecting at Box Office? Please allow extra time before the show starts.
Can I get a drink before the performance?
Yes, our downstairs bar is open from midday Monday-Saturday. You can take drinks into the auditorium in the plastic cups provided.
Which theatre space will I be visiting?
We have two spaces at our Sloane Square venue:
- Jerwood Theatre Downstairs:
Proscenium-arch stage, 370 seats across Stalls, Circle and Balcony - Jerwood Theatre Upstairs:
Intimate studio space with around 90 seats, located on the 4th floor (lift accessible)
We may also sell tickets for productions at other venues — these will be clearly marked at the time of booking and on your ticket.
Is there a cloakroom? Can I bring bags?
Yes, we have a cloakroom on the Stalls level.
You can check in large bags or bulky items for £1 per item. Bag searches may be in operation at the theatre.
What happens if I’m late?
We operate a strict no latecomers or re-admittance policy for most performances.
- Downstairs shows sometimes allow a late entry point, chosen by the Director
- Upstairs shows typically do not permit late entry (due to crossing the stage)
If admitted late, you may be seated in the nearest available spot not necessarily your original seat.
Can I return or exchange my ticket?
Refunds are only offered if a performance is cancelled. If you can’t attend a performance, we can offer:
- An exchange to another performance
- A credit voucher valid for 1 year
Do you provide content warnings?
We try not to spoil the experience of new plays. However, key content warnings for specific shows are typically available online and through pre-show emails. If there are certain themes or content that you are particularly concerned about, you’re welcome to contact us to discuss these before booking.
Can I bring children to the theatre?
Most productions are recommended for ages 14+. Some may vary — check the show page for age guidance.
- No children under 6 years old are permitted in the auditorium, including babes in arms (except for our dedicated Babes-in-Arms Performance).
- Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Are there programmes available?
We usually sell playtexts instead of traditional programmes for £5. After the run, texts may be available through Concord Theatricals at full price.
Some shows may have printed programmes. Ask a Front of House team member on the day.
Do you offer group rates for schools?
Yes, we offer reduced ticket rates for schools, colleges, universities and community groups. Visit our Group booking page for full details.
