We want our building to be your writing room.

As part of the Writers’ Card offer, we’re sharing our resources with the independent and freelance writing community: workspace, power sockets, internet, printing, coffees, reference books and more.

Members can access it all for free or the lowest possible cost. This is an invitation to make the Court your professional home, with no expectation to buy anything and every right to just be here, for writing, meetings, co-working and chats.

Building Resources

Our Spaces & Facilities

Open Monday-Friday, 12pm-5.30pm

We’ve done a quick count: across the Bar, Foyer and Balcony Bar, we’ve got almost 40 tables, desks and worktops; 100 seats and 20 power-points – plus high-speed Wi-Fi throughout, a reference library, printing facilities and more.

For Writers’ Card Members, they’re all available for free with no expectation to make any purchases (and if you do, only at the lowest possible cost – see our special Writers’ Card Menu).

Whether it’s a cosy sofa for reading, a quiet desk for writing or research, a roundtable for production meetings, or a private corner for plotting global theatrical domination – the Royal Court belongs to writers, as much as to us.

And if there’s anything the building can offer that’s not currently available, just ask, and we’ll do our best.

Royal Court Library

Set across three floors, the Royal Court Library houses hundreds of plays and theatre books (and counting). They’re all available to browse and read in our building – entirely for free.

The library also includes a computer point with access to the Living Archive, our digital catalogue of plays from the entire history of the Royal Court.

The library is made possible by a generous donation from Concord Theatricals, who continue to donate new books every time they publish them.

Royal Court Bar – The Writers’ Card Menu

A flat white for a pound? In Chelsea? We kid you not.

Writers’ Card Members can access to an exclusive menu in our bar. Discounted drinks are available all day.

The menu starts with teas and barista coffees for a £1, plus great discounts on house soft drinks and a range of other products. Just show your membership card or email to access your discounts.

The Playwrights’ Printer

Who has a printer these days? We do – and you’re welcome to use it.

Writers’ Card Members can print out script drafts or other key documents with a serviced printer available to use for free in our building.

The Playwrights’ Printer will be available at Box Office during our regular daytime hours (12pm-5.30pm).

Just show a digital Membership Card or sign-up confirmation to print from USB (and we’ll have a few USB sticks on hand for this purpose).

Printing is available for Members entirely free of charge, black and white on recycled A4 only, but without any other limitations. We’d just ask everyone using it to take a common-sense approach, and to use it for personal rather than company or production printing purposes.

Phone Locking Service

Struggling with procrastination, doom-scrolling and distractions? We’re here to help get that draft finished.

Available on request at Box Office for any Writers’ Card Member, we’ve got a set of phone-locking pouches to support writers working in the building without distraction. Because we’ve never met a writer who didn’t need a little help to focus.

You’ve probably seen them at gigs. How it works is, you switch off your phone and seal it in a pouch which can only be opened by our staff when you leave (or finally give in to temptation). You can keep your phone on you at all times, but you can’t access it while you’re trying to get your work done.

Please feel free to give our Box Office number to your next of kin in case of emergencies: 020 7565 5000.
