Writers' Card Sign Up
Signing up for Writers’ Card membership couldn’t be easier – and did we mention it’s completely free?
Any writer can join, regardless of where they’re based, their career stage or background, so long as they share our commitment and ambition for playwriting. We also welcome international writers, especially if seeking a theatrical home-away-from-home in the UK.
Want to join? Follow these steps…
- Click below to sign up, linked to your email account on our system.
- You will receive an email (allow up to 1 hour) to confirm you are a playwright via a short survey.
- This email will also contain key information, a promotional code for online discounts, and will sign you up to our Writers’ Card Newsletter.
- A physical membership card will be available to collect from Box Office (but you don’t need this to access the membership perks).
Finally, we’d ask everyone joining to read our Code of Conduct.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
I’ve signed up but haven’t received my survey or membership email yet – what do I do?
If you do not receive the email after an hour, try checking your junk mail for the welcome email and survey. If the email is not in your junk, make sure you have subscribed to receive emails from us and/or sign up again. In some cases, if you have previously ‘unsubscribed’ from Royal Court emails, the system will prevent these emails from being sent unless you subscribe again.
If you still do not get your confirmation email, please contact the Box Office (020 7565 5000 or boxoffice@royalcourttheatre.com) with your name and email and they will confirm your membership for you and help address the problem.
Do I need a physical card to access my membership?
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be able to start booking Writers’ Card events immediately, just using the email log-in associated with your membership either online or by telephone. You’ll be able to collect your physical card at box office the next time you come into the building, and it may be requested either when attending an event or to redeem your discount at the Bar and Kitchen. If you don’t have your card, you will also be able to show them your membership confirmation email on your phone.
I’ve signed up, but I can’t log in to book for Writers’ Card events
Once you have signed up to be a Writers’ Card member and have completed your survey, you should be able to log in to your Royal Court box office account using the email address you signed up with at checkout. If you do not have an account already, you will need to make one using the email you gave when signing up. You should then be able to sign up and book. If you continue to have issues, you can contact the Box Office team (on 020 7565 5000 or boxoffice@royalcourttheatre.com) to book directly and troubleshoot the issue with your account.
What do I do when a Writers’ Card event is sold out?
Events are limited and first-come-first served. For queries about returns and waiting lists, please contact our Box Office on 020 7565 5000 or by email on BoxOffice@royalcourttheatre.com.
Can I get ticket discounts with my Writers’ Card membership?
Unfortunately, your free Writers’ Card membership does not give you access to discounted tickets. We offer lots of free events alongside the shows we have on, and if you book for a show as part of a Writers’ Night, you’ll get free drinks and nibbles on top of the ordinary ticket cost.
Do I get a discount on playtexts?
As part of your membership, we will provide access to a range of discounts - including from the Concord Theatricals online bookshop and Nick Hern Books. However, this is different from texts and programmes for current shows sold at our venue, which have no discount for Writers' Card members as they are already sold at a discount rate (typically £5 each).
