Latte-land…
4×4s, grand design knock-throughs, organic everything.
A work-shy writer discovers a Victorian man living in the wall of his flat. Everyone’s pretty surprised. Adjustments need to be made.
Can the strange visitor unlock his hopeless career? His flagging relationship? A story buried in these walls for over a century? (Doubt it. Maybe. Yes.)
Contains jokes, songs, banging on recycling boxes, a talking fridge…
Will Adamsdale was the winner of the Perrier Award for Comedy in 2004 for Jackson’s Way which later played at the Royal Court in 2011, as part of The London Jacksathon – a marathon tour of 26 London venues. He also won a Scotsman Fringe First and Total Theatre Award for The Receipt with Chris Branch. In Spring 2012, The Summer House, a collaboration with Matthew Steer, Neil Haigh and John Wright, ran at the Gate Theatre.
Lyndsey Turner co-directs. She directed Laura Wade’s play Posh in the West End and at the Royal Court. Her other work at the Royal Court includes Our Private Life, A Miracle and Contractions. Her other credits include Philadelphia! Here I Come at the Donmar Warehouse, Edgar And Annabel and There Is A War at the National Theatre, and Joseph K and Nocturnal at the Gate. She is associate director at Sheffield Theatres where her work includes Alice and The Way of the World.

4 stars 20.5.13,LIBBY PURVES, TIMES
“[Adamsdale] is a treasure, an original, a breeze of fresh air in the sour self-regarding world of youthful comedy.”
“Define it as social satire, romantic comedy or surrealist fantasy with rackety songs. Or just enjoy.” “Gorgeously original, very funny, finally touching. Love it!” 4 stars 17.5.13,ANDRZEJ LUKOWSKI, TIME OUT“It’s completely mad, in other words, but with a sprinkling of jolly songs, knockabout bonhomie, tender heart and abundance of good gags.”
“Credit too to the invisible hand of director Lindsey Turner, a woman you will never see a photo of, who rarely helms anything that’s less than hilarious.”
4 stars 17.5.13, HENRY HITCHINGS, THE EVENING STANDARD
“Strange, original and often blissfully funny.”
“The writing is packed with pleasures. Adamsdale brilliantly skewers middle-class foibles and neuroses… He also has a zest for the surreal — Cockney choruses, kooky sound effects, and a fridge that murmurs suggestively.”“Adamsdale raises laughs but leaves behind an unusual bittersweet taste.”
4 stars 17.5.13, SAM MARLOWE, THE ARTS DESK
“Excited with an openhearted charm it would be pointless to even attempt to resist.”
“Sweet and slyly clever… with its shrewd awareness of the swift slipperiness of time, of the tiny moments of procrastination, foolishness or failure of nerve in which our happiness so often hangs in the balance, it is curiously penetrating.”
“Playful as a puppy – albeit one that occasionally nips your ankles.”
“Affecting, quietly thoughtful, and often just plain daft… But if the piece can be deliciously silly, it’s also subtle: a quirky, absorbing affirmation that home, in the end, is where the heart is.”
