Peckham the Soap Opera Call Out

The Royal Court is looking for volunteer actors who are from, live, work or study in Peckham to perform in a live soap opera created by the writers Bola Agbaje and Rachel De-lahay.

The Soap Opera

Peckham the Soap Opera is a series of ten, 5 minute episodes inspired by Peckham residents and written by Royal Court writers – Bola Agbaje, Alice Birch, Brad Birch, Adam Brace, Rachel De-lahay, Robin French, Lucy Kirkwood, Chloe Moss, David Watson, and Roy Williams.

The episodes will be performed and filmed in the Bussey Building each evening in front of a live audience and live-streamed online from Monday 1 July to Friday 12 July at 7pm, with an Omnibus performance on Saturday 13 July.

The Soap will be directed by Ola Animashawun and Debbie Hannan.

Dates Required for the Actors

All events take place at the Bussey Building, 133 Peckham Rye, SE15 4ST.

18 and 19 June
Auditions – 6pm to 10pm

28 to 30 June
Skills and Ensemble Development Workshops

28 June
workshop – 6pm to 10pm

29 and 30 June
workshop – 10am to 6pm

1 to 12 July (excluding 6 and 7 July)
Performance and rehearsals – 6pm to 10pm

13 July
Rehearsal of omnibus and performance – 12pm to 8pm

It is imperative that you can attend all these dates.

Please note this community project is offered on a voluntary basis only. Please be aware that we will not be paying you a fee, subsistence, expenses or travel costs for the auditions, workshops, rehearsals or the performance.

Auditions

We will need you to be able to attend both evenings as you may be called on either day. Also, although it is unlikely, we would like to reserve the right to call people back for a second audition on the following evening, before making our final decision.

If you think there is a particular character that you might be best suited for, do include that as well. See the document attached for a list of characters.

While we can’t guarantee that we’ll only audition people who are from, live, work or study in Peckham – people with a strong association with Peckham will be prioritized during the casting process.

If you have been successful in your application to audition we will notify you in advance by email – outlining where and when you will be required to attend and anything you may need to do by way of preparation. If you haven’t heard from us by Monday 24 June then unfortunately it means you have been unsuccessful on this occasion. Unfortunately, we will be unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful applications.
