AWARDS INCLUDE: 2008 Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright; the inaugural New
York Times Outstanding Playwright Award; the Mimi Steinberg Award; in 2007 the inaugural Paula Vogel
Playwriting Award and the Whiting Writers Award.
Tarell is a graduate of Yale School of Drama. He was the International Writer in Residence for the RSC
2009-11, and the 2009 Hodder Fellow at the Lewis Center for the Arts, Princeton University. He also
holds a seven-year residency at New Dramatists in New York. He is a member of the Ted Castellanos /
D-projects Company in Miami and in April 2010,Tarell became the 43rd member of the Steppenwolf
Theater Ensemble.
In 2013, Choir Boy will receive its American premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club and the World
premiere of Tarell’s play Head of Passes will be produced by Steppenwolf Theater Ensemble in Chicago.
