Cast Announced for E.V. Crowe's Hero

CAST ANNOUNCED FOR HERO BY E.V. CROWE AT ROYAL COURT THEATRE

The cast of E.V. Crowe’s next play Hero, which opens in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court from 23 November (press night 29 November) will feature Liam Garrigan, Daniel Mays, Tim Steed and Susannah Wise.

The production is directed by Jeremy Herrin, designed by Mike Britton, with lighting by Rick Fisher and sound by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.

“We can only do this, if we go by the book. Announcing you’re gay to minors is not in the book. That’s in the other book.”

Danny’s gay, a primary school teacher, and he’s not afraid of anything. His colleague Jamie’s straight, and thinks he should be.

E. V. Crowe brings her distinctive voice to the story of a heroic modern man.

Liam Garrigan plays primary school teacher Danny. His theatre credits include Moonlight at the Donmar Warehouse, The Anniversary in the West End and The Honeymoon Suite at the Royal Court.

Daniel Mays plays Danny’s colleague, Jamie. His credits include Moonlight at the Donmar Warehouse and has appeared at the Royal Court in Scarborough, Motortown, The Winterling, Ladybird, Just a Bloke and The One with the Oven. On Screen his credits include Mrs Biggs, The Street and Ashes to Ashes.

Tim Steed plays Danny’s partner Joe. His credits include The Pride at the Royal Court, All My Sons at Liverpool Playhouse, Rocket to the Moon at the National, The Duchess of Malfi at Greenwich and Much Ado About Nothing at Regents Park Open Air.

Susannah Wise plays Lisa, Jamie’s partner. Her recent credits include A Doll’s House at the Young Vic, The Holy Rosenbergs at the National , The Fairy Queen at Glyndbourne and Seven Jewish Children at the Royal Court.

E.V. Crowe made her Royal Court debut in 2010 with Kin, directed by Jeremy Herrin, and was shortlisted for the Most Promising Playwright at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Credits elsewhere include Young Pretender, produced by nabokov at the Edinburgh Fringe and on tour. A graduate of the Young Writer’s Programme, she is currently under commission to the National Theatre, Watford Palace Theatre and the Unicorn Theatre.

Jeremy Herrin is Associate Director at the Royal Court. His credits at the Royal Court include Haunted Child, The Heretic, Kin, Spur of the Moment, Off the Endz, The Priory, Tusk Tusk, That Face and The Vertical Hour. Credits elsewhere include This House at the National Theatre, Children’s Children (Almeida), Absent Friends (West End), Uncle Vanya(Chichester), Death and the Maiden (West End), Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare’s Globe), South Downs (Chichester and West End).

_Hero is part of the Royal Court’s Jerwood New Playwrights programme, which aims to discover and support the next generation of world class playwrights, supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
