Lucy Davies will leave the Royal Court in late Spring 2022 to join the Young Vic as their new Executive Director. Lucy joined the Royal Court in April 2013 and has overseen over 100 plays in both theatres across her 9 years. In 2017 she was part of leading the theatre’s response to sexual harassment in the industry, and in 2019 she led on the theatre’s credible and just plan to achieve net zero for which she won a Creative Green Champion Award in 2020.

Lucy Davies, Executive Producer at the Royal Court Theatre, said:

It has been an overwhelming honour to be part of the Royal Court’s story, and to have worked with so many brilliant writers’ minds. I will savour my last months alongside Vicky and my wonderful colleagues and friends. More words in time.

Anthony Burton, Royal Court Theatre Chairman, said:

“Lucy’s leadership at the Royal Court over the last 9 years has been remarkable. She has led with tenacity, generosity, authenticity and great skill. It has been a privilege to work with her. The last two years have been particularly onerous but she has been wonderful in steering the Court though these tricky Covid years. She has been a massive support to me and the Board. To say we will miss her is an understatement. We wish her the very best at the Young Vic

Vicky Featherstone, Artistic Director of the Royal Court, said:

Lucy has been and will continue to be a treasured comrade and friend. We both believe deeply in the necessity of change and I am delighted for Kwame and everyone at the Young Vic that they will be able to benefit from her wisdom, generosity and experience. As Lucy says there will be many more words in time, but for now, I always knew she would leave me for a Younger Vic…”
