Lucy Kirkwood's Maryland to air on BBC Two at 10pm on Wednesday 20 July 2022

The film adaptation of Lucy Kirkwood’s play Maryland will air on BBC Two at 10pm on Wednesday 20 July 2022. The 30-minute film is co-directed by Lucy Kirkwood and documentary-maker Brian Hill. It is a Century Films production, produced by Caroline Levy. The executive producers are Vicky Featherstone and Lucy Morrison for the Royal Court and Suzy Klein and Rose Garnett for the BBC.

Commenting on the film adaptation, Lucy Kirkwood said;
“I wrote the play as a howl, a protest against the violence women are forced to reckon with in their everyday lives, and I hope the film will allow more people to share that protest.”

Maryland by Lucy Kirkwood was originally performed in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs Thursday 7 October 2021 – Saturday 23 October 2021. The script-in-hand performances were co-directed by Royal Court Associate Directors Milli Bhatia and Lucy Morrison and Royal Court Theatre Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone.
