Middle Child announce artist development programme Louder Than Words for Hull theatre makers

Middle Child theatre company has announced plans to invest in theatre makers living and working in Hull as part of its new artist development programme. Included in this programme will be a new writers group in association with the Royal Court.

Louder Than Words will provide opportunities for actors, writers, theatre companies and critics to hone their craft without having to leave Hull.

The writers group will be led by Hull playwright Tom Wells and will provide masterclasses to first-time playwrights. Alongside this, the programme will also offer:

• A new theatre library that makes hundreds of play scripts available to any resident of Hull, free-to-borrow, in association with publishers, Oberon Books;
• A new critics programme to train two new critics in the city every year, with the help of some of the country’s top reviewers, including Lyn Gardner from The Guardian and Natasha Tripney of The Stage;
• An Acting Gym for actors in the city to develop their skills in-between jobs;
• Multiple funding pots available for new and emerging companies to create work in Hull, alongside a Career Kickstarter Fund to help working class actors get auditions.

The programme is one of the first initiatives to be announced by Middle Child as they become an Arts Council England (ACE) national portfolio organisation. Over the next four years Middle Child will receive core funding from ACE alongside Hull 2017 UK City of Culture legacy funding.
