Career Surgeries

Fancy a free coffee and a chat? We’re here for you.

We know avenues for independent and freelance writers seeking guidance can be limited, and the challenges for those developing creative careers can feel overwhelming. So, we’re here to help talk it out with regular, light-touch career surgeries for Writers’ Card Members.

Once a month, we’ll offer up the expertise of the Royal Court’s staff team to discuss anything that’s on your mind. Primarily hosted in our Bar & Kitchen – with tea and coffee on us – we’ll also offer zoom options for those who can’t make it in person.

Topics could include career trajectories, finding opportunities, producing and marketing your own work, accessing funding and support, goat herding, telekinesis, and more – anything where a 20-minute chat might genuinely help or be a useful sounding-board. And from time to time, we’ll offer special sessions dedicated to key areas of expertise.

How it works

Slots are available for Members only, in-person at the Royal Court Bar & Kitchen, or via Zoom (please ensure you select your preferred option below).

To be able to book a surgery spot, you must log in to the Royal Court account attached to your membership. Once logged in, please click on the the time slot you wish to book for and you should then be able to proceed to booking your space.

Places are first-come, first-served and the booking portal will open two weeks in advance of each surgery date. There is no formal application process – members simply need to tell us their name, email and 1-2 lines about what they’re hoping to discuss.

Please keep in mind that these surgeries are best geared toward single topics or a contained set of questions, focused on any area of professional or career support. We are unable to read or watch any materials in advance or feedback on work during the chat.
