Rakie Ayola and Tobi Kyeremateng Nominated in This Year's Black British Theatre Awards

Rakie Ayola has been nominated in the Best Female Actor in a Play category for her performance in On Bear Ridge, and Tobi Kyeremateng has been nominated in the Best Producer category for My White Best Friend (and Other Letters Left Unsaid) in this year’s Black British Theatre awards.

On Bear Ridge by Ed Thomas was co-directed by Vicky Featherstone and Ed Thomas. It opened in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs and ran from Thursday 24 October – Saturday 23 November 2019. This was a co-production with National Theatre Wales.

My White Best Friend (and Other Letters Left Unsaid) was curated by writer Rachel De-Lahay and director Milli Bhatia. The writers included Amma Asante, Elliot Barnes-Worrell, Ryan Calais Cameron, Clint Dyer, Afua Hirsch, Yasmin Joseph, Tife Kusoro, Lettie Precious, Campbell X and Rachael Young. It ran on the Royal Court’s website as an online festival from Monday 13 July – Friday 17 July 2020.

First presented last year, the Black British Theatre awards are produced by Kwame Kwei-Armah and directors Charlie Di Placido and Kojey Radical. The event will be broadcast next month on the new free Sky Arts TV channel.
