Rakie Ayola Awarded Best Female Actor in a Play in This Year's Black British Theatre Awards for On Bear Ridge

Rakie Ayola has been awarded the Best Female Actor in a Play award at this year’s Black British Theatre Awards for her performance in On Bear Ridge.

On Bear Ridge by Ed Thomas was co-directed by Vicky Featherstone and Ed Thomas. It opened in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs and ran from Thursday 24 October – Saturday 23 November 2019. It was a co-production with National Theatre Wales.

Tobi Kyeremateng was also nominated in the Best Producer category for My White Best Friend (and Other Letters Left Unsaid), which was curated by writer Rachel De-Lahay and director Milli Bhatia. The writers included Amma Asante, Elliot Barnes-Worrell, Ryan Calais Cameron, Clint Dyer, Afua Hirsch, Yasmin Joseph, Tife Kusoro, Lettie Precious, Campbell X and Rachael Young. It ran as an online festival from Monday 13 July – Friday 17 July 2020.

This year’s Black British Theatre Awards were televised for the first time in partnership with Sky Arts on Sunday 25 October 2020 at 9pm.
