Four series of readings of German plays have taken place at the Royal Court. Two plays, Mr Kolpert by David Gieselmann and Fireface by Marius von Mayenburg, were given full productions as part of the International Playwrights Season in 2000.
Roland Schimmelpfennig's Push Up and The Woman Before were produced in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs as part of the 2002 season and in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs in May 2005 respectively.
The Ugly One by Marius von Mayenburg was produced in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs in 2007 and revived in June 2008 in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.
"The Stone": royalcourttheatre.devspace.net/whats-on/the-stone , also by Marius von Mayenburg, was produced in February 2009 in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs as part of Off The Wall – a season of new plays from or about Germany to mark the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The second full production in this season was Over There by Mark Ravenhill, in a co-production with the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz.
Also presented were five rehearsed readings by some of Germany's leading playwrights, all of whom are alumni of the Royal Court International Residency.
