Ten international writers from ten different countries have been commissioned by the Royal Court in association with the BBC World Service to write short plays. The writers have been asked to explore personal experience in their own society in relation to public events in the world. These are all outstanding writers who have taken part in the International Residency over the last 18 years. A number of these plays will be broadcast by the BBC World Service on 11 November and presented at the Royal Court as staged readings.

The five short plays being performed are:

AN INFIDEL IN THE UPPER ROOM

WHITEOUT

by Anupama Chandrasekhar (India)

QUIET, AND WE HEAR

by Philip Luswata (Uganda)

ELEVEN MINUTES

by Naghmeh Samini (Iran)
