The Knack was first presented at the Cambridge Arts Theatre, directed by Keith Johnson, before moving to the Royal Court. An ironic play about the male art of seduction, it received mixed reviews with some dismissing it as a feminist or women’s play. In spite of this, it was extremely successful and, in 1965, was made into an award-winning film starring Rita Tushingham.
