Writing for Performance: Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago
A project for writers living and working in Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago
This project supports 12 writers from Barbados, Jamaica & Trinidad & Tobago to explore and develop their practice. The group will allow space and support for each writer to work on a new text over a period of 10 months, engaging in a dialogue between different traditions, forms and cultural approaches to making work. It will be co-facilitated by freelance writers, directors and dramaturgs
who have worked regularly for the Royal Court Theatre including Anthony Simpson-Pike, debbie tucker green, Myah Jeffers, Phillippe Cato, and Yasmin Joseph as well as a range of leading artists from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago.
The first phase of the project took place online between September 2022 and January 2023, followed by a workshop in Barbados in April 2023. The project culminated in Jamaica in August 2023 with a series of workshops followed by public readings of the scripts developed through this process.
This project is run in partnership with the Royal Court Theatre, Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, the University of the West Indies Cave Hill, The National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago & the British Council.
