International Residencies

Our residency programme creates different contexts for international artists to spend time developing work at the Royal Court. We invite around five or six writers each year to spend an intensive period of time at the theatre working on a new piece of work. Each residency is bespoke to the writer’s needs, shaped around their interests, the focus of their work, the artists they might want to connect with. Individual residency invitations tend to arise as a way of deepening relationships with writers we’ve met or engaged with through other groups or projects. They are an opportunity for writers to bring their practice to the Royal Court and to workshop and develop a play with actors as well as making connections with theatre in the UK.
