Schools Residencies

Royal Court Schools Residencies Programme 2020

Our School Residencies Programme will focus on our three local boroughs: Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster and Fulham & Hammersmith.

Between January – July 2020, we will offer five bespoke residencies, delivering artist-led work in the classroom and working collaboratively with the class teacher to devise and develop best practice bespoke work with each school.

Previous residency models have included a series of in-school workshops, a week-long residency at the Royal Court and a combination of both, which culminated  in a sharing on the Royal Court Stage. These residencies, created in collaboration with the class teacher explored playwriting, careers in theatre and devising.

“I was so impressed by the work the students produced in such a short period of time at their residency at the Royal Court. Giving Year 9 students the opportunity to work in such a professional environment really instilled in them a sense of confidence and self-belief. Hearing them say that they didn’t believe that theatre had anything to say to them until this experience, was moving and inspiring, and has made me question my own practice and how I can make their experience of Drama at school more relevant to them. What was also heartening was seeing the bonds formed by the students in what was quite a disparate group. I’ve seen then since together at school – they have become closer from this shared experience. I have also had a couple of students ask to change their GCSE options to Drama since working with the Royal Court.”

Your residency will be designed for you, to suit the needs of your classroom, based on input from our expert team of Royal Court facilitators and artists. Alongside the residency, we will also offer teachers CPD, tickets, support with the drama curriculum, resources for working with new writing in the classroom and signposting student to opportunities at other London theatres.

The residency programme does carry a cost, but in order to be as inclusive as possible, we will work with you to ensure these costs are not prohibitive.
