Bookshop

The shop is a friendly place to visit and browse. Have a read of your purchases whilst enjoying a coffee in our Bar & Kitchen.

For nearly two hundred years, Samuel French has been a haven for theatre lovers and theatre makers in London, stocking a huge range of plays and theatre books, and offering expert advice. The much loved bookshop in Fitzroy Street, London closed in April 2017 and was re-established in one of the most important centres of new writing in British theatre.

Simon, the shop manager from the store on Fitzroy Street for thirty years, is on hand to help and answer questions.

We look forward to welcoming customers and friends from the old bookshop, and introducing many more theatre-goers to the Samuel French team.

The bookshop is now located on the lower ground floor of the Royal Court Theatre (Stalls level) just before the stairs to enter the Bar & Kitchen.

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Concord. This September, the Samuel French Bookshop will be transformed into a free public library resource, allowing you to access over 5,000 scripts and theatre books. The shop will close on 27 July and reopen in the autumn. Normal opening hours will remain until this time.
