Beyond the Court

2017 was the final year of our three-year residency projects in  Tottenham and Pimlico – two very different areas of London.

Our first year in each area in 2015 was an introductory year in which we spent time meeting local artists, community groups, schools and religious groups with the aim of encouraging them to feel that theatre was an art form accessible to them.

In 2016 we built on those relationships, focusing on working with local people develop the skills with which to start creating their own work. Our ambition was to work with each group we had met in Year 1 on a project based on an issue that resonated with them, culminating in a performance at the end the year.

In 2017 we continued our engagement with these communities, working towards producing two final artistic projects in both areas, written and devised by local participants.

The aim of the three-year project was to have a lasting creative impact on these areas, with cohorts of artists, technicians and cultural leaders forming companies to commission and produce their own new pieces of work.
