Introduction to theatre making for people of Middle Eastern heritage

A free workshop held on Sat 2 November for anyone of Middle Eastern heritage who wanted to learn about theatre making and how to tell stories, be it stories about their own experience or stories they’d like to see on stage.

The workshop was led by Hannah Khalil and Hassan Abdulrazzak, two of the co-founders of Manara Theatre which champions the work of Middle Eastern and North African playwrights.

The workshop included a FREE ticket to see Sabrina Mahfouz’s A History of Water in the Middle East in the evening at 7.45pm.

 

Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner: ReAct

July 19 & 22–25 2019

This was an exciting opportunity for young theatre makers aged 14-18. Over 5 days, the group worked collaboratively with director Milli Bhatia to create a response to Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner by Jasmine Lee-Jones.

 

White Pearl: ReAct (SLEEP)

May 24-25 2019

Sleep is not an empty act.
Sleep is self care.
Sleep is a political act.

A symbolic last bastion positioned against a world of ever-accelerating demands.

SLEEP proposed a real time experience of ‘collective sleep’ as a personal political act, a way to understand how we form collective identity and how this could become an antidote to a society that excessively promotes individualistic identity as a premium commodity.

The Woods: ReAct

Tue 2 – Wed 3 Oct and Tue 9 – Sat 13 Oct 2018

This was for young actors aged 18–25. Following an overnight immersive stay in the building on 2 Oct, the group worked collaboratively over 5 days with writer Robert Alan Evans and director Lucy Morrison to create a response to The Woods.

Poet in da Corner: ReAct

Mon 22 – Fri 26 Oct 2018

This was for young people aged 14-25, who identified as female and had an interest in grime music. Over 5 days, the group worked collaboratively with writer & performer Debris Stevenson and Assistant Director Milli Bhatia to create a response piece to Poet in da Corner.
